Aceh Besar (28/07) 2023. Researchers from the Research Center for Marine Science and Fisheries Syiah Kuala University (PRKP USK) introduced fish traps with durable and environmentally friendly construction to Lhok Paroy fishermen, Lhoong District, Aceh Besar District for three days, 25-27 July 2023.
Through Product Based Community Service Program (PKMBP) 2023
the training in collaboration with the USK Faculty of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, the Training for Making Durable Construction Fish Trap involved a group of eight fishermen.
In his remarks, Adrian Damora, the chief executive of the event, said that this activity received full support from the USK Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM).
“The use of durable construction traps is an alternative to fishing gear that is environmentally friendly. With these more durable traps, fishermen are very profitable, because fishermen’s operational costs for fishing gear become more economical because the traps can be used for a longer time,” he explained
The traps that were introduced at the training this time are a type of fish trap which has a more durable construction than the fish traps that have been used by fishermen, especially fishermen on the west-south coast of Aceh,” said Adrian.
The trap construction is made of galvanized iron, which has a mixture of steel in it, allowing the trap to last longer and is more anti-corrosion than ordinary iron.” He explained. “A total of seven units of trap were produced from this training and have been tested to catch fish. in the waters around Lhok Paroy,” Adrian admitted
FKP USK Deputy Dean of Resources and Finance, Dr. Nur Fadli, S.Pi., M.Sc, symbolically gave the traps resulting from the training to Panglima Laot Lhok Paroy to be used by the people of Lhok Paroy.
This community service activity is a part of alternative livelihood activities for fishermen in Aceh as a form of implementation of the Governor of Aceh Regulation Number 3 of 2023 concerning the Action Plan for Sustainable Fisheries Management in Aceh.
