Banda Aceh (08/02) 2022 Office Representative of Bank Indonesia Aceh Province in collaboration with the Research Center for Marine Science and Fisheries Syiah Kuala University (PRKP USK). This study has identified key areas for optimization in the capture fisheries sector in Aceh.
This study report recommends which capture fisheries sectors have good business feasibility, so that they are feasible to offer to investors. The results of this study were presented at the Pre-Dissemination Workshop on Aceh Marine and Fisheries Studies: Potential, Optimization, and Investment Opportunities, Tuesday-Wednesday, 7-8 February 2023 at the Teuku Umar Auditorium, Office Representative of Bank Indonesia Aceh Province, Banda Aceh.
This study is considered important to encourage the development of the fishing industry and its impact on reducing the inflation rate. This study was conducted by a team of experts from PRKP USK consisting of lecturers and researchers at the Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries (FKP) and the USK Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB).
“By tackling these key areas, we believe that we can create a more efficient and sustainable fishing industry that benefits all stakeholders. It is hoped that the results of this study can be used as a reference for investors to invest in Aceh,” said the Head of the PRKP Research Team, Haekal A. Haridhi.
In the results of this study, problems were found and solutions discussed in the capture fisheries industry in Aceh, including fishing practices, storage and distribution, as well as marketing aspects by presenting participants consisting of policy makers, academics, fisheries business actors, and the Panglima Laot Customary Institution.

“This study found that modernizing fishing techniques, improving storage and distribution facilities, and expanding the marketing and distribution of fish products, are the keys to boosting the industry and reducing inflation,” he explained.
In his remarks, the Head of the Aceh Province Bank Indonesia Representative Office, Rony Widijarto P said that this study was conducted as part of the Bank Indonesia Provincial Office Representative efforts to develop the fishing industry.
“This study provides a clear roadmap for the Aceh government and the fishing industry to work together from both the regulatory component, academics and practitioners, in revitalizing aspects that need to be improved in the capture fisheries industry,” he said.
He explained, the study analyzed the existing gaps, as well as identified solutions to fill these gaps. Respondents consisted of regulators, especially Bappeda and the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Service, fishing port managers and industry players in each district/city. This study is also equipped with a feasibility study for the type of business considered feasible such as the docking industry, cold storage, refrigerated transportation and others.
“The findings of this study can be used to guide government policy and industrial investment, with the aim of creating a more prosperous and sustainable fisheries sector,” said Rony.
