GREETINGS FROM PRKP

Welcome to the Research Center for Marine Sciences and Fisheries

Associate Professor Haekal A. Haridhi
Director, Research Center for Marine Sciences and Fisheries

The mission of the Research Center for Marine Sciences and Fisheries or Pusat Riset Ilmu Kelautan dan Perikanan (PRKP) is to conduct excellent research and community services, to initiate research collaboration with other institutions at the local, national and international level, enhance the opportunity to the local researcher to develop their research carrier, to communicate marine sciences and fisheries to the global society thought the publication either in the international and or national journal, to apply the research finding trough acquisition of intellectual properties right towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) .

There has been an increasing requirement to be a Marine and Fisheries Scientist, hance that Indonesia is an archipelago nation that exhibits the impact of climate change.

The ocean is a very complex system yet it’s fragile. It is constantly influenced by the planetary system, such as the Sun, Moon, and Earth itself, interaction of atmosphere, cryosphere, and solid earth. The ocean covers 71% of the Earth, which is the only planet that we know until now to contain and support life. It’s a fragile system, so far we do not fully understand how this complex system works or to navigate the effects of human beings on it.

I believe that the ocean remains a huge advantage to human life that has its own right of challenges at a whole lot of levels, from micron to planetary, from local social aspect to the global community.

Here at the Research Center for Marine Sciences and Fisheries, we address this gap of knowledge. Building on the foundations of the well-known expert in the fields of marine sciences and fisheries, we can help to initiate new paths through the dynamics of the ocean and fisheries and what that have governed them. Through our science communication activities, we increase sustainable marine and fisheries resource exploration to ensure the implementation of the SDGs.

I pledge my vision and passion to lead the Research Center for Marine Sciences and Fisheries of Universitas Syiah Kuala to support the SDGs.
